Иуда слабо вскрикнул, бросился назад но	With a weak cry, Judas rushed back,
второй человек преградил ему путь.	but a second man barred his way.
Первый, что был впереди, спросил Иуду:	The first man, in front of him, asked Judas:
- Сколько получил сейчас? Говори, если хочешь сохранить жизнь!	'How much did you just get? Speak, if you want to save your life!'
Надежда вспыхнула в сердце Иуды. Он отчаянно вскричал:	Hope flared up in Judas's heart, and he cried out desperately:
- Тридцать тетрадрахм! Тридцать тетрадрахм! Все, что получил, с собою. Вот деньги! Берите, но отдайте жизнь!	‘Thirty tetradrachmas!' Thirty tetradrachmas! I have it all with me! Here's the money! Take it, but grant me my life!'
Человек спереди мгновенно выхватил из рук Иуды кошель. И в тот же миг за спиной у Иуды взлетел нож, как молния, и ударил влюбленного под лопатку. Иуду швырнуло вперед, и руки со скрюченными пальцами он выбросил в воздух. Передний человек поймал Иуду на свой нож и по рукоять всадил его в сердце Иуды.	The man in front instantly snatched the purse from Judas's hands. And at the same instant a knife flew up behind Judas's back and struck the lover under the shoulder-blade. Judas was flung forward and thrust out his hands with clawed fingers into the air. The front man caught Judas on his knife and buried it up to the hilt in Judas's heart.
- Ни... за... - не своим, высоким и чистым молодым голосом, а голосом низким и укоризненным проговорил Иуда и больше не издал ни одного звука. Тело его так сильно ударилось об землю, что она загудела.	'Ni . . . za . . .'Judas said, not in his own high and clear young voice, but in a low and reproachful one, and uttered not another sound. His body struck the earth so hard that it hummed.
Тогда третья фигура появилась на дороге. Этот третий был в плаще с капюшоном.	Then a third figure appeared on the road. This third one wore a cloak with a hood.
- Не медлите, - приказал третий.	'Don't linger,' he ordered.
Убийцы быстро упаковали кошель вместе с запиской, поданной третьим, в кожу и перекрестили ее веревкой. Второй засунул сверток за пазуху, и затем оба убийцы бросились с дороги в стороны, и тьма их съела между маслинами. Третий же присел на корточки возле убитого и заглянул ему в лицо. В тени оно представилось смотрящему белым, как мел, и каким-то одухотворенно красивым.	The killers quickly wrapped the purse together with a note handed to them by the third man in a piece of hide and criss-crossed it with twine. The second put the bundle into his bosom, and then the two killers plunged off the roadsides and the darkness between the olive trees ate them. The third squatted down by the murdered man and looked at his face. In the darkness it appeared white as chalk to the gazing man and somehow spiritually beautiful.
