Which was annoying, as they had meant to nip across to Biarritz in Helm-holtz's four-seater sporticopter.	Досадно - они ведь собрались слетать сейчас в Биарриц на четырехместном спортолете Гельмгольца.
They'd be late for dinner if he didn't come soon.	Так и к обеду можно опоздать.
"We'll give him five more minutes," said Helmholtz.	- Подождем еще пять минут, - сказал Гельмгольц.
"If he doesn't turn up by then, we'll ..."	- И если не явится, то...
The ringing of the telephone bell interrupted him.	Зазвенел телефон.
He picked up the receiver.	Гельмгольц взял трубку.
"Hullo.	- Алло.
Speaking."	Я вас слушаю.
Then, after a long interval of listening, "Ford in Flivver!" he swore.	- Длинная пауза, и затем: - Форд побери! -выругался Гельмгольц.
"I'll come at once."	- Буду сейчас же.
"What is it?" Bernard asked.	- Что там такое? - спросил Бернард.
"A fellow I know at the Park Lane Hospital," said Helmholtz.	- Это знакомый - из Парк-лейнской умиральницы.
"The Savage is there.	Там у них Дикарь буйствует.
Seems to have gone mad.	Видимо, помешался.
Anyhow, it's urgent.	Времени терять нельзя.
Will you come with me?"	Летишь со мной?
Together they hurried along the corridor to the lifts.	И они побежали к лифту.
"But do you like being slaves?" the Savage was saying as they entered the Hospital.	- Неужели вам любо быть рабами? - услышали они голос Дикаря, войдя в вестибюль умиральницы.
His face was flushed, his eyes bright with ardour and indignation. "Do you like being babies?	Дикарь раскраснелся, глаза горели страстью и негодованием, - любо быть младенцами?
Yes, babies. Mewling and puking," he added, exasperated by their bestial stupidity into throwing insuits at those he had come to save.	Вы - сосунки, могущие лишь вякать и мараться, -бросил он дельтам в лицо, выведенный из себя животной тупостью тех, кого пришел освободить.
The insults bounced off their carapace of thick stupidity; they stared at him with a blank expression of dull and sullen resentment in their eyes.	Но оскорбления отскакивали от толстого панциря; в непонимающих взглядах была лишь тупая и хмурая неприязнь.
"Yes, puking!" he fairly shouted.	- Да, сосунки! - еще громче крикнул он.
Grief and remorse, compassion and duty-all were forgotten now and, as it were, absorbed into an intense overpowering hatred of these less than human monsters.	Скорбь и раскаяние, сострадание и долг - теперь все было позабыто, все поглотила густая волна ненависти к этим недочеловекам.
