She was tired and sat down to rest. She lay on her front and scrabbled about in the sand.	Она устала и присела отдохнуть, потом перевернулась на живот и стала разгребать рукой песок вокруг себя.
Suddenly her fingers touched something hard and cold in the sand.	И вдруг ее пальцы коснулись чего-то твердого и холодного.
She uncovered it- and lo and behold, it was an iron ring!	Девочка смела в сторону песок, и - подумать только! - под ним оказалось железное кольцо.
She gave a shout and the others looked up.	Энн вскрикнула, и ребята обернулись.
"There's a stone with an iron ring in it here!" yelled Anne, excitedly.	- Здесь камень с железным кольцом! -возбужденно закричала Энн.
They all rushed over to her.	Все бросились к ней.
Julian dug about with his spade and uncovered the whole stone.	Джулиан разгреб лопатой землю, и они увидели весь камень целиком.
Sure enough, it did have a ring in it- and rings are only let into stones that need to be moved!	Да, действительно, на нем было кольцо, а кольца бывают только на камнях, которые можно сдвигать.
Surely this stone must be the one that covered the dungeon entrance!	Наверняка этот камень закрывает вход в подземелье!
All the children took turns at pulling on the iron ring, but the stone did not move.	Ребята по очереди тянули за кольцо, но камень не тронулся с места.
Then Julian tied two or three turns of rope through it and the four children put out their full strength and pulled for all they were worth.	Тогда Джулиан привязал к кольцу веревку, и они изо всех сил потянули ее все вместе.
The stone moved. The children distinctly felt it stir.	Камень сдвинулся, ребята это сразу почувствовали.
"All together again!" cried Julian.	- Давайте-ка еще раз все вместе! - крикнул Джулиан.
And all together they pulled.	Так они и сделали.
The stone stirred again and then suddenly gave way.	Камень снова шевельнулся, и вдруг поддался и поднялся вверх.
It moved upwards- and the children fell over on top of one another like a row of dominoes suddenly pushed down!	Ребята повалились друг на дружку, как сдвинутые костяшки домино.
Tim darted to the hole and barked madly down it as if all the rabbits of the world lived there!	Тимми кинулся к образовавшемуся отверстию и бешено залаял, будто там внизу прятались все кролики на свете!
Julian and George shot to their feet and rushed to the opening that the moved stone had disclosed.	Джулиан и Джордж вскочили на ноги и бросились к отверстию, которое открылось под камнем.
They stood there, looking downwards, their faces shining with delight.	Они стояли и глядели вниз, буквально сияя от радости.
They had found the entrance to the dungeons!	Все-таки они нашли вход в подземелье!
A steep flight of steps, cut out of the rock itself, led downwards into deep darkness.	Крутые ступеньки, высеченные в камне, вели вниз в черную темноту.
