It was not such an awful voice as she had expected to come from the big Head; so she took cour-age and answered:	Для такой Головы голос был даже совсем не страшный, и Дороти ответила:
"I am Dorothy, the Small and Meek.	- Я Дороти, маленькая и слабая.
I have come to you for help. "	Я пришла просить у тебя помощи.
The eyes looked at her thoughtfully for a full minute. Then said the voice:	С минуту Голова пристально разглядывала ее, а затем произнесла:
"Where did you get the silver shoes? "	- Откуда у тебя серебряные башмачки?
"I got them from the Wicked Witch of the East, when my house fell on her and killed her, " she replied.	- От Злой Волшебницы Востока. Мой домик опустился прямо на нее и раздавил, - сказала Дороти.
"Where did you get the mark upon your forehead? " continued the voice.	- Откуда у тебя этот алый след на лбу? -продолжала допрос Голова.
"That is where the Good Witch of the North kissed me when she bade me good-bye and sent me to you, " said the girl.	- Это Добрая Волшебница Севера поцеловала меня на прощание, отправляя к тебе в Изумрудный Город, - отвечала девочка.
Again the eyes looked at her sharply, and they saw she was telling the truth.	Снова глаза уставились на девочку и пристально смотрели, пока Г олова не решила, что ей сказали правду.
Then Oz asked,	Затем Оз спросил:
"What do you wish me to do? "	- Что ты от меня хочешь?
"Send me back to Kansas, where my Aunt Em and Uncle Henry are, " she answered earnestly.	- Отошли меня домой в Канзас к дяде Генри и тете Эм, - попросила Дороти.
"I don't like your country, although it is so beautiful.	- Мне не нравится ваша страна, хотя она очень красивая.
And I am sure Aunt Em will be dreadfully wor-ried over my being away so long. "	И кроме того, тетя Эм, наверное, очень волнуется, что меня так долго нет.
The eyes winked three times, and then they turned up to the ceiling and down to the floor and rolled around so queerly that they seemed to see every part of the room.	Глаза трижды моргнули, потом уставились в потолок, потом посмотрели в пол - и завращались с удивительной быстротой.
And at last they looked at Dorothy again.	Наконец взор их снова упал на Дороти.

"That just happened, " returned Dorothy simply;	- Я тут ни при чем, - честно созналась Дороти.
"I could not help it. "	- Это случилось как-то само собой.
"Well, " said the Head,	- Значит, так, - сказал Оз.
"I will give you my answer.	- Вот тебе мой ответ.
