‘I can see you don’t remember me,’ continued Emily, ‘but you must recall our headmaster, Mr Kipper, and the way he’d always have to send a monitor on ahead to reflate his bike tyres each afternoon?’

‘Yes, that I do remember (да, это я помню)! Those were good times, weren’t they (хорошие были времена, не так ли),’ observed Jim (заметил Джим), shaking his head nostalgically (с ностальгией качая головой), adding (добавив), ‘you’ve got a good memory (у вас хорошая память).’ His glance again strayed to the document before Emily (его взгляд снова вернулся к документу, /лежащему/ перед Эмили; to stray – сбиться с пути, отбиться; блуждать, бродить), and then he caught her eye (но затем он поймал ее взгляд; to catch) and they laughed together (и они вместе рассмеялись).

‘You must stay for a bite (ты должен остаться перекусить),’ she said (сказала она). ‘I’ve got an extra pizza in the freezer (у меня есть еще одна пицца в морозилке; extra – добавочный, дополнительный) and the salad is enough for two (а салата хватит на двоих).’

‘I’d be delighted (я бы с удовольствием),’ said Jim (сказал Джим), before pointing to the document (прежде чем указать на документ). ‘On the top one (на верхнем /листе/), and then on the duplicate (а затем на копии), if you would, Emily (если позволите, Эмили).’

‘You must stay for a bite,’ she said. ‘I’ve got an extra pizza in the freezer and the salad is enough two.’

‘I’d be delighted,’ said Jim, before pointing to the document. ‘On the top one, and then on the duplicate, if you would, Emily.’

Smiling (улыбаясь), Emily signed her name with a flourish as directed (Эмили поставила свою подпись росчерком, как было указано).

‘Happy (счастлив)?’ she enquired (спросила она).

‘I certainly am (да, безусловно),’ beamed Jim (просиял Джим).

‘So do I (мне тоже) – especially pretty women (особенно красивых женщин),’ was Jim’s quick response (был быстрый ответ Джима). They laughed again (они снова засмеялись), only this time the atmosphere seemed distinctly charged (только на тот раз атмосфера казалась определенно заряженной; distinctly – отчетливо, четко, ясно; заметно, определенно, бесспорно; charged – полный; заряженный).

‘I like making people happy,’ giggled Emily.

‘So do I – especially pretty women,’ was Jim’s quick response. They laughed again, only this time the atmosphere seemed distinctly charged.
