I held the oars up and we sailed with them.	Я поднял весла, и мы закачались на волнах.
Catherine was opening the bag.	Кэтрин открыла чемодан.
She handed me the brandy bottle.	Она передала мне бутылку с коньяком.
I pulled the cork with my pocket-knife and took a long drink.	Я вытащил пробку перочинным ножом и отпил порядочный глоток.
It was smooth and hot and the heat went all through me and I felt warmed and cheerful.	Коньяк был крепкий, и тепло разлилось по всему моему телу, и я согрелся и повеселел.
"It's lovely brandy," I said.	- Хороший коньяк, - сказал я.
The moon was under again but I could see the shore.	Луна опять зашла за тучу, но берег был виден.
There seemed to be another point going out a long way ahead into the lake.	Впереди была стрелка, далеко выдававшаяся в озеро.
"Are you warm enough, Cat?"	- Тебе не холодно, Кэт?
"I'm splendid.	- Мне очень хорошо.
I'm a little stiff."	Только ноги немножко затекли.
"Bail out that water and you can put your feet down."	- Вычерпай воду со дна, тогда сможешь протянуть их.
Then I rowed and listened to the oarlocks and the dip and scrape of the bailing tin under the stern seat.	Я снова стал грести, прислушиваясь к скрипу уключин и скрежету черпака о дно лодки под кормовой скамьей.
"Would you give me the bailer?" I said. "I want a drink."	- Дай мне, пожалуйста, черпак, - сказал я. - Мне хочется пить.
"It's awful dirty."	- Он очень грязный.
"That's all right.	- Ничего.
I'll rinse it."	Я его ополосну.
I heard Catherine rinsing it over the side.	Я услышал, как Кэтрин ополаскивает черпак за бортом лодки.
Then she handed it to me dipped full of water.	Потом она протянула его мне до краев полным воды.
I was thirsty after the brandy and the water was icy cold, so cold it made my teeth ache.	Меня мучила жажда после коньяка, а вода была холодная, как лед, такая холодная, что зубы заломило.
I looked toward the shore.	Я посмотрел на берег.
We were closer to the long point.	Мы приближались к стрелке.
There were lights in the bay ahead.	В бухте впереди видны были огни.
"Thanks," I said and handed back the tin pail.	- Спасибо, - сказал я и передал ей черпак.
"You're ever so welcome," Catherine said. "There's much more if you want it."	- Сделайте одолжение, - сказала Кэтрин. - Не угодно ли еще?
"Don't you want to eat something?"	-Ты бы съела что-нибудь.
"No.	- Нет.
I'll be hungry in a little while.	Я пока еще не голодна.
