"That sounds fine," Jennie said.	- Звучит превосходно, - сказала Дженни.
"Good." He smiled. "I'll meet you down at my car. It's the black Packard."	- Отлично, - улыбнулся доктор. - Я буду ждать вас внизу у машины - черный "паккард".
"I know," she said quickly.	- Я знаю, - быстро ответила она.
All the nurses knew the car. It was always parked just opposite their dormitory.	Его машину знали все медсестры, он всегда припарковывался напротив их спальни.
Outside of Dr. Gedeon's black Cadillac, it was the most expensive car at the hospital.	Не считая черного "кадиллака" доктора Гедеона, это была самая дорогая машина в больнице.
"See you in fifteen minutes, then."	- Тогда жду вас через пятнадцать минут.
Jennie walked out into the corridor and pressed the button for the elevator.	Дженни вышла в коридор и нажала кнопку лифта.
The door opened and she stepped in. Dr. Lobb rushed in right after her.	Дверь открылась, она вошла, и сразу за ней в лифт юркнул доктор Лобб.
"The Steak 'n' Sauce!"	- Мясо с подливкой!
"I wonder what he wants?" Jennie asked.	- Интересно, что ему надо? - спросила Дженни.
His grin grew broader. "I know what he wants," he said lewdly. "But I didn't have any luck getting it at the Greasy Spoon."	- Я знаю, чего он хочет, - широко улыбнулся Лобб, - у меня, например, нет шансов.
She returned his grin. "His luck won't be any better at the Steak 'n' Sauce."	- Мясо с подливкой не увеличит и его шансы.
"I don't know." He laughed. "One of these days, you're goin' to give it up to somebody.	- Не знаю, - рассмеялся Лобб. - Когда-нибудь все равно это произойдет, нет смысла хоронить себя.
There's no sense feeding it to the worms." "That will never happen," she said. Too late for that, she thought. But it didn't matter now. It was forgotten and no one here had heard about it. "I still wonder what he wants?"	- Это никогда не произойдет, - сказала Дженни. -И все же, что ему надо?
"Maybe he wants you to work for him.	- Может быть, он хочет, чтобы ты работала с ним?

Dr. Lobb grinned but his eyes were serious.	Доктор Лобб улыбнулся, но глаза его были серьезными.

The elevator door opened and they stepped out into the basement corridor, where the employees' cafeteria was.	Лифт остановился, и они вышли в коридор первого этажа, где располагался кафетерий для персонала больницы.
Jennie looked down at her white uniform.	Дженни взглянула на свой белый халат.
"I'd better get out of this and into a dress."	- Пожалуй, мне лучше снять его и надеть платье.
