Сказка о царе Салтане

Guard of this fair isle; and they	Чтобы остров тот хранить
Cease patrol nor night nor day.	И дозором обходить -
Nor can you find guards so true,	И той стражи нет надежней,
Vigilant and fearless, too.	Ни храбрее, ни прилежней.
Prince Guidon reigns there, and he	А сидит там князь Гвидон;
Sends his compliments to thee."	Он прислал тебе поклон".
Here the tsar said, in amaze:	Царь Салтан дивится чуду.
"If but God prolong my days,	"Коли жив я только буду,
I shall visit this strange isle,	Чудный остров навещу
Guest with this Guidon a while."	И у князя погощу".
Silent were the cook and weaver.	Повариха и ткачиха
But their mother, sly deceiver,	Ни гугу - но Бабариха
Said, as she smiled crookedly:	Усмехнувшись говорит:
"You may think this strange-not we!	"Кто нас этим удивит?
Fancy! Idle mermen play	Люди из моря выходят
Sentry-go on land all day!	И себе дозором бродят!
Be this true, or but a lie,	Правду ль бают, или лгут,
Nothing strange in this see I-	Дива я не вижу тут.
Stranger things exist, mark you-	В свете есть такие ль дива?
This report, though, is quite true:	Вот идет молва правдива:
There's a young princess, they say,	За морем царевна есть,
That she charms all hearts away.	Что не можно глаз отвесть:
Brighter than the sun at noon,	Днем свет божий затмевает,
She outshines the midnight moon,	Ночью землю освещает,
In her braids a crescent beams,	Месяц под косой блестит,
On her brow, a bright star gleams.	А во лбу звезда горит.
She herself is sweet of face.	А сама-то величава,
Full of majesty and grace.	Выплывает, будто пава;
When she speaks, her voice doth seem	А как речь-то говорит,
Like the music of a stream.	Словно реченька журчит.
That's a wonder, now, for you-	Молвить можно справедливо,
Marvelously strange, but true."	Это диво, так уж диво".
Wisely, though, the guests prefer	Гости умные молчат:
Not to bandy words with her.	Спорить с бабой не хотят.
