‘I’m sorry, Jenny (прости, Дженни). I can’t (я не могу).’

‘What (что)?’ she asked (спросила она), heavy-eyed (с напряженно глядящими глазами; heavy – тяжелый; утомленный /о голове или глазах/) and unsure she had heard right (неуверенная, что она правильно его расслышала).

He had gone as stiff as a board. Tenderly he took her arms from around his neck.

‘I’m sorry, Jenny. I can’t.’

‘What?’ she asked, heavy-eyed and unsure she had heard right.

‘I have to leave now (теперь я должен идти). It was a mistake (это была ошибка). Can’t explain (не могу объяснить), but thanks for a fantastic evening (но спасибо за удивительный вечер).’
