The sedative that the doctor has given her begins to take effect.	- Успокоительное начинает действовать.
She is vaguely sleepy and acquiescent.	Она в полузабытьи.
Supposing that at that moment there is a tap on the door and some one enters bringing her, shall we say, a tablet, or a draught, with the message that 'the doctor says you're to take this.'	А что если тут раздается стук в дверь, в комнату входит некто, приносит, ну, скажем, таблетку и говорит: "Доктор велел вам принять это".
Do you imagine for one minute that she would not have swallowed it obediently without thinking twice about it?"	Неужели вы думаете, что она бы не приняла лекарство?
There was a silence.	Наступило молчание.
Blore shifted his feet and frowned.	Блор шаркал ногами, хмурился.
Philip Lombard said:	Филипп Ломбард сказал:

Lombard objected: "But then Rogers would have been up there."	- Но тогда в спальне уже наверняка был Роджерс, - возразил Ломбард.
Dr. Armstrong stirred. "No," he said.	- Нет, - вмешался Армстронг.
"Rogers went downstairs to clear up in the dining-room and pantry.	- Роджерс был внизу - убирал столовую, кухню.
Any one could have gone up to the woman's bedroom then without being seen."	В этот промежуток кто угодно мог подняться в спальню миссис Роджерс совершенно незаметно.
Emily Brent said: "Surely, doctor, the woman would have been fast asleep by then under the influence of the drug you had administered?"	- Но ведь к тому времени, доктор, - вставила мисс Брент, - она должна была уже давно заснуть - она приняла снотворное.
"In all likelihood, yes.	- По всей вероятности, да.
But it is not a certainty.	Но поручиться в этом я не могу.
