"Where's the judge?"	- А где судья? - спросила она.
The three men looked at each other.	Мужчины переглянулись.
"That's odd... Thought he came up with us."	-Не понимаю, что случилось... Мне казалось, он поднимался с нами...
Blore said: "So did I...	- И мне, - сказал Блор.
What about it, doctor?	- Что скажете вы, доктор?
You came up the stairs behind me."	Вы шли следом за мной.
Armstrong said: "I thought he was following me... Of course, he'd be bound to go slower than we did.	- Мне казалось, он был позади меня... Разумеется, он не поспевал за нами.
He's an old man."	Возраст все же дает о себе знать.
They looked at each other again.	Они снова переглянулись.
Lombard said: "It's damned odd..."	- Ничего не понимаю, - сказал Ломбард.
Blore cried: "We must look for him." He started for the door.	- Отправимся на розыски, - предложил Блор и пошел к двери.
The others followed him, Vera last.	Мужчины последовали за ним, Вера замыкала шествие.
As they went down the stairs Armstrong said over his shoulder:	Когда они спускались по лестнице, Армстронг объявил:
"Of course he may have stayed in the living-room..."	- Наверное, он остался в гостиной.
They crossed the hall.	Они пересекли холл.
Armstrong called out loudly:	Армстронг время от времени громко звал:
"Wargrave, Wargrave, where are you?"	-Уоргрейв! Уоргрейв! Где вы?
There was no answer.	Никакого ответа!
A deadly silence filled the house apart from the gentle patter of the rain.	Мертвая тишина, нарушаемая лишь тихим шумом дождя.
Then, in the entrance to the drawing-room door, Armstrong stopped dead.	Добравшись до гостиной, Армстронг замер на дороге.
The others crowded up and looked over his shoulder.	Остальные толклись сзади, выглядывали из-за его плеча.
Somebody cried out.	Кто-то вскрикнул.
Mr. Justice Wargrave was silting in his high-backed chair at the end of the room.	Судья Уоргрейв сидел в глубине комнаты в кресле с высокой спинкой.
Two candles burnt on either side of him.	По обе стороны кресла горели свечи.
But what shocked and startled the onlookers was the fact that he sat there robed in scarlet with a judge's wig upon his head...	Но больше всего их удивило и испугало то, что судья был в судейской мантии и парике...
Dr. Armstrong motioned to the others to keep back. He himself walked across to the silent staring figure, reeling a little as he walked like a drunken man.	Доктор Армстронг знаком остановил их, а сам нетвердой, как у пьяного, походкой направился к застывшему в кресле судье.
He bent forward, peering into the still face.	Наклонясь, вгляделся в неподвижное лицо.
