Funny, that he couldn't put a name to it...	Странно, почему он никак не может вспомнить имени этого человека.
Silly sort of face really - fellow looked a bit of a mug.	Кстати говоря, довольно глупое лицо... типичное лицо недотепы.
Of course!	Ну как же!
It came to him with a real shock.	Его вдруг осенило.
Landor!	Ландор.
Odd to think he'd completely forgotten what Landor looked like.	Странно, но он начисто забыл его лицо.
Only yesterday he'd been trying to recall the fellow's face, and hadn't been able to.	Ведь только вчера он пытался вспомнить, как тот выглядел, и не смог.
And now here it was, every feature clear and distinct, as though he had seen it only yesterday...	А теперь он видит его так же четко, будто они расстались накануне...
Landor had had a wife - a thin slip of a woman with a worried face.	У Ландора была жена - чахлая замухрышка, с вечно озабоченным лицом.
There'd been a kid too, a girl about fourteen.	Была и дочка, девчушка лет четырнадцати.
For the first time, he wondered what had become of them...	Он впервые задумался над тем, что с ними сталось.

What had become of the revolver?	Где может быть револьвер?
That was much more important...) The more he thought about it the more puzzled he was... He didn't understand this revolver business... Somebody in the house had got that revolver...	Вот о чем надо сейчас думать...) Чем больше он ломал над этим голову, тем меньше понимал, куда мог подеваться револьвер... Не иначе, как им завладел кто-то из тех троих.
Downstairs a clock struck one.	Пробили часы внизу. Час.
Blore's thoughts were cut short.	Блор насторожился.
He sat up on the bed, suddenly alert.	Сел на кровати.
For he had heard a sound - a very faint sound -somewhere outside his bedroom door.	До него донесся шум, еле слышный шум за дверью.
There was some one moving about in the darkened house.	По темному дому кто-то ходил.
The perspiration broke out on his forehead.	Пот выступил у него на лбу.
Who was it, moving secretly and silently along the corridors?	Кто это тихо, втайне от всех, бродит по коридорам?
Some one who was up to no good, he'd bet that!	Кто бы это ни был, ничего хорошего от него ждать не приходится!
Noiselessly, in spite of his heavy build, he dropped off the bed and with two strides was standing by the door listening.	Блор сполз с кровати, несмотря на свою грузность, неслышно ступая, подошел к двери, прислушался.
But the sound did not come again.	И на этот раз ничего не услышал.
Nevertheless Blore was convinced that he was not mistaken.	Тем не менее Блор был уверен, что не ошибся.
