He wanted to break things, anything.	Ему хотелось что-нибудь сломать, все равно что.
So you thought your frenzied period was over, did you! he yelled at himself, lurching forward to fling over the bar.	Значит, ты думал, что твой "дурной период" прошел, не так ли? Он двинулся вперед с намереньем опрокинуть бар.
Then he caught himself and held back.	Спохватившись, он остановился.
No, no, don't get started, he begged.	Нет, нет. Только не начинай, - просил он себя.
Two shaking hands ran through his lank blond hair. His throat moved convulsively and he shuddered with the repressed craving for violence.	Он запустил трясущиеся пальцы в свою белокурую шевелюру Кадык его двигался, и все тело дрожало, переполнившись жаждой разрушения, которой он не давал выхода.
The sound of the whisky gurgling into the glass angered him.	Пробулькивание виски через горлышко привело его в ярость.
He turned the bottle upside down and the whisky spurted out in great gushes, splashing up the sides of the glass and over onto the mahogany top of the bar.	Он опрокинул бутылку вверх дном, и виски полилось потоком, с плеском обрушиваясь в бокал и выплескиваясь через край на столешницу бара.
He swallowed the whole glassful at once, head thrown back, whisky running out the edges of his mouth.	Запрокинув голову, он одним махом заглотил виски, не обращая внимания на то, что по щекам стекло ему за шиворот. Он торжествовал.
I'm an animal! he exulted.	Да, я - животное.
I'm a dumb, stupid animal and I'm going to drink!	Я - тупое, безмозглое животное! И я сейчас напьюсь.
He emptied the glass, then flung it across the room.	Он швырнул бокал через комнату.
It bounced off the bookcase and rolled across the rug.	Бокал отскочил от книжного стеллажа и покатился по ковру.
Oh, so you won't break, won't you! he rasped inside his head, leaping across the rug to grind the glass into splinters under his heavy shoes.	Ах, ты еще и не бьешься! Не бьешься! Скрежеща зубами, он стал топтать бокал ботинками, втаптывая стеклянные брызги в ковер.
Then he spun and stumbled to the bar again. He filled another glass and poured the contents down his throat.	Развернувшись, он снова подошел к бару, наполнил еще один бокал и влил его в себя.
I wish I had a pipe with whisky in it! he thought.	Хорошо бы иметь водопровод, наполненный виски, - подумал он.
I'd connect a goddamn hose to it and flush whisky down me until it came out my ears!	- Я бы подключил шланг прямо к крану и заливал в себя виски, пока оно не полило бы из ушей!
Until I floated in it!	Пока не захлебнулся бы.
He flung away the glass.	Он отшвырнул бокал.
Too slow, too slow, damn it!	- Слишком медленно.
He drank directly from the uptilted bottle, gulping furiously, hating himself, punishing himself with the whisky burning down his rapidly swallowing throat.	Слишком медленно, черт возьми! - Высоко подняв бутыль, он приложился прямо к горлышку и, шумно глотая, ненавидя себя, стал как наказание вливать себе в глотку обжигающее виски, едва успевая проглатывать его.
