A servant came in and interrupted the Grand Master.

"There is a Jew standing at the gate who wants to speak to brother Brian de Bois-Guilbert."

Isaac came in and bowed deeply to the Grand Master (Исаак вошел и низко поклонился великому магистру; deep — глубокий). Then he folded his hands respectfully (затем он сложил руки с почтением; to fold — загибать, перегибать, сгибать, складывать; respectfully — почтительно; вежливо). He had heard that Lucas de Beaumanoir had been cruel to both Arabs and Jews alike in Palestine (он слышал/знал, что Лука де Бомануар был жесток как с арабами, так и с евреями, в равной степени, в Палестине; alike — точно так же, почти что одинаково), and now looked at the Grand Master with great fear (и теперь взирал на великого магистра с огромным страхом).

Isaac came in and bowed deeply to the Grand Master. Then he folded his hands respectfully. He had heard that Lucas de Beaumanoir had been cruel to both Arabs and Jews alike in Palestine, and now looked at the Grand Master with great fear.

"What is your business with our brother Brian de Bois-Guilbert?" demanded the Grand Master.

"I have a letter from Prior Aymer for the good knight (у меня письмо от приора Эймера к этому достойному рыцарю; good — хороший; достойный, добропорядочный, добродетельный)."

"Didn't I say these were evil times (разве я не говорил, какие дурные времена /настали/; evil — дурной, плохой; злой; зловещий, неблагоприятный)," the Grand Master said to his servant (сказал великий магистр своему слуге). "A prior sends a letter to a Templar (приор посылает письмо тамплиеру) and can find no better man to carry it than a Jew (и не может найти никого лучше: «никакого лучшего человека», кто бы доставил его, чем еврея)! Give me the letter (отдай мне это письмо)!"

"Didn't I say these were evil times," the Grand Master said to his servant. "A prior sends a letter to a Templar and can find no better man to carry it than a Jew! Give me the letter!"

With shaking hands, Isaac unfolded the letter (трясущимися руками Исаак развернул письмо; to unfold — развертывать; раскрывать) and was about to give it to the Grand Master (и уже собирался отдать его великому магистру; to be about to do smth. — собираться, намереваться сделать что-либо).

"Back, dog (назад, пес)!" shouted the Grand Master. "I will not touch unbelievers myself (я не прикоснусь к неверным сам; believer — верующий; unbeliever — неверующий; to believe — верить), except with my sword (иначе, как своим мечом; except — исключая, кроме, за исключением)!"

The servant took the letter from Isaac (слуга взял письмо у Исаака) and gave it to the Grand Master (и отдал его великому магистру).

With shaking hands, Isaac unfolded the letter and was about to give it to the Grand Master.

"Back, dog!" shouted the Grand Master. "I will not touch unbelievers myself, except with my sword!"

The servant took the letter from Isaac and gave it to the Grand Master.
