I won't go way before that.	Я не уеду, пока не увижу.
You think I wanna miss the play?" I said.	Думаешь, я пропущу такой спектакль? -спрашиваю.
"What I'll do, I'll probably stay at Mr. Antolini's house till maybe Tuesday night.	- Знаешь, что я сделаю? Я побуду у мистера Антолини, скажем, до вторника, до вечерка.
Then I'll come home.	А потом вернусь домой.
If I get a chance, I'll phone ya."	Если удастся, я тебе позвоню.
"Here," old Phoebe said.	- Возьми! - говорит.
She was trying to give me the dough, but she couldn't find my hand.	Она мне протягивала какие-то деньги, но не могла найти мою руку.
"Where?"	- Где ты?
She put the dough in my hand.	- Нашла мою руку, сунула деньги.
"Hey, I don't need all this," I said.	- Эй, да мне столько не нужно! - говорю.
"Just give me two bucks, is all.	- Дай два доллара - и все.
No kidding--Here."	Честное слово, забирай обратно!
I tried to give it back to her, but she wouldn't take it.	Я ей совал деньги в руку, а она не брала.
"You can take it all.	- Возьми, возьми все!
You can pay me back.	Потом отдашь!
Bring it to the play."	Принесешь на спектакль.
"How much is it, for God's sake?"	- Да сколько у тебя тут, господи?
"Eight dollars and eighty-five cents.	- Восемь долларов и восемьдесят пять центов.
Sixty-five cents.	Нет, шестьдесят пять.
I spent some."	Я уже много истратила.
Then, all of a sudden, I started to cry.	И тут я вдруг заплакал.
I couldn't help it.	Никак не мог удержаться.
I did it so nobody could hear me, but I did it.	Стараюсь, чтоб никто не услышал, а сам плачу и плачу.
It scared hell out of old Phoebe when I started doing it, and she came over and tried to make me stop, but once you get started, you can't just stop on a goddam dime.	Фиби перепугалась до смерти, когда я расплакался, подошла ко мне, успокаивает, но разве остановишься?
I was still sitting on the edge of the bed when I did it, and she put her old arm around my neck, and I put my arm around her, too, but I still couldn't stop for a long time.	Я сидел на краю постели и ревел, а она обхватила мою шею лапами, я ее тоже обнял и реву, никак не могу остановиться.
I thought I was going to choke to death or something.	Казалось, сейчас задохнусь от слез.
Boy, I scared hell out of poor old Phoebe.	Фиби, бедняга, испугалась ужасно.
