Many of the people at the tables knew one another.	Многие из сидевших за столиками знали друг друга.
There were several card games going on.	За несколькими столиками играли в карты.
The waiters were busy bringing drinks from the bar to the tables.	Кельнеры сновали между стойками и столами, разнося напитки.
Two men came in and could find no place to sit.	Двое мужчин вошли и не могли найти себе места.
They stood opposite the table where I was.	Они остановились против моего столика.
I ordered another beer.	Я заказал еще пива.
I was not ready to leave yet.	Я еще не мог уйти.
It was too soon to go back to the hospital.	Возвращаться в больницу было рано.

The men stood around but no one was leaving, so they went out.	Вошедшие постояли немного, но никто не вставал, и они ушли.

The man opposite me had taken off his spectacles, put them away in a case, folded his paper and put it in his pocket and now sat holding his liqueur glass and looking out at the room. Suddenly I knew I had to get back.	Вдруг я почувствовал, что должен идти.
I called the waiter, paid the reckoning, got into my coat, put on my hat and started out the door.	Я позвал кельнера, заплатил по счету, надел пальто, взял шляпу и вышел на улицу.
I walked through the rain up to the hospital.	Под дождем я вернулся в больницу.
Upstairs I met the nurse coming down the hall.	Наверху в коридоре мне встретилась сестра.
"I just called you at the hotel," she said.	- Я только что звонила вам в отель, - сказала она.
Something dropped inside me.	Что-то оборвалось у меня внутри.
"What is wrong?"	- Что случилось?
"Mrs. Henry has had a hemorrhage."	- У madame Генри было кровотечение.
"Can I go in?"	- Можно мне войти?
"No, not yet.	- Нет, сейчас нельзя.
The doctor is with her."	Там доктор.
"Is it dangerous?"	- Это опасно?
"It is very dangerous."	- Это очень опасно.
The nurse went into the room and shut the door.	Сестра вошла в палату и закрыла за собой дверь.
I sat outside in the hail.	Я сидел у дверей в коридоре.
Everything was gone inside of me.	У меня внутри все было пусто.
