The President Is No More/Президента больше нет

The office walls were covered with film-like screens. And it wasn’t just the walls — even the blinds turned into screens when they were closed.  That’s why the President rejected the curtains traditional for this office. They say that Freeman frequently holds brainstorming sessions here. The walls displayed all the necessary data, and the staff sits or stands in the middle of the cabinet. This way, the information falls at them from all sides. Maybe there’s something to this.

Недаром аналитики считают  Била Фримэна самым успешным президентом США за всю историю страны. Он выполнил все свои предвыборные обещания. Все. Кстати, до него случались гонения на гуманишей, но он первый прекратил это раз и навсегда. И даже защитил их законодательно! Как же я забыла об этом факте? Неужели после этого Фримэн будет использовать гуманишей в борьбе за победу в выборах?

No wonder analysts think that Bill Freeman was the most successful president in the country’s history. He fulfilled all of his election promises. All of them. Incidentally, the persecution of the Humanists happened before he took office, but once did, he stopped that once and for all. He even defended them legislatively! How did I forget about that? After all of that, would Freeman really use the Humanists to win the election?

Посередине комнаты расположены два дивана, также покрытые программируемой материей — ее свойства регулируются по желанию президента. Сейчас они выглядели кожаными, но я знала, что обивка была способна превратиться в драпировку или мех. Столик посередине тоже мог служить экраном — кстати, полная экранизация Овального кабинета произошла только при нынешнем президенте. Ради этого он отказался еще от одного традиционного предмета — камина. Тем не менее расположение мебели осталось прежним.

There were two couches in the middle of the room, also covered in programmable material, its properties changing at the President’s whim.
