Then it came back.	Потом сразу вспомнилось все.
Cholera!	Холера!
She saw the consternation* on the nuns' faces.	На лицах монахинь написан ужас.
Sister St Joseph looked huge and her outline was blurred.	Сестра Сен-Жозеф стала огромная, контуры ее расплылись.
Once more terror overwhelmed her.	Китти снова ощутила смертельный страх.
"Oh, Mother, Mother," she sobbed. "Am I going to die?	- О, ma m?re, - простонала она, - я умру?
J don't want to die."	Я не хочу умирать.
"Of course you're not going to die," said the Mother Superior. She was quite composed and there was even amusement in her eyes.	- С чего вы это взяли? Настоятельница была совершенно спокойна, а глаза даже веселые.
"But it's cholera.	- Но это холера!
Where's Walter?	Где Уолтер?
Has he been sent for?	За ним послали?
Oh, Mother, Mother."	О Господи!
She burst into a flood of tears.	И она разрыдалась.
The Mother Superior gave her hand and Kitty seized it as though it were a hold upon the life she feared to lose.	Настоятельница протянула ей руку, и Китти ухватилась за эту руку, словно то была сама жизнь, которую она так боялась упустить.
"Come, come, my dear child, you mustn't be so silly.	- Полно, полно, дитя мое, будьте благоразумны.
It's not cholera or anything of the kind."	Никакая это не холера.

"Your husband is much too busy to be troubled.	- Ваш муж занят, и незачем его зря беспокоить.
In five minutes you'll be perfectly well."	Через пять минут вы будете совершенно здоровы.
Kitty looked at her with staring, harassed eyes.	Китти ответила ей изумленным, непонимающим взглядом.
Why did she take it so calmly?	Почему она не волнуется?
It was cruel.	Это жестоко.
"Keep perfectly quiet for a minute," said the Mother Superior. "There is nothing to alarm yourself about."	- Полежите еще немножко, - сказала настоятельница. - А тревожиться не о чем.
Kitty felt her heart beat madly.	У Китти бешено заколотилось сердце.
She had grown so used to the thought of cholera that it had ceased to seem possible that she could catch it.	Она так свыклась с мыслью о холере, что уже перестала было бояться за себя.
Oh, the fool she had been!	Какая же она была дура!
She knew she was going to die. She was frightened.	Вот она и умирает.
The girls brought in a long rattan* chair and placed it by the window.	Девочки внесли в комнату низкое плетеное кресло и поставили у окна.
