"The Invisible Man!" said Kemp.	- Невидимка! - сказал Кемп.
"He has a revolver, with two shots-left.	- У него револьвер. Осталось два заряда.
He's killed Adye.	Он убил Эдая.

He's lying there."	Он там лежит.
"Who?" said one of the policemen.	- Кто? - спросил один из полицейских.
"Adye," said Kemp.	- Эдай, - сказал Кемп.
"We came in the back way," said the girl.	- Мы прошли задворками, - сказала служанка.
"What's that smashing?" asked one of the policemen.	- Что это за треск? - спросил другой полицейский.
"He's in the kitchen-or will be.	- Он на кухне... или скоро там будет.
He has found an axe-"	Он нашел топор...
Suddenly the house was full of the Invisible Man's resounding blows on the kitchen door.	Вдруг на весь дом раздались удары топора по кухонной двери.
The girl stared towards the kitchen, shuddered, and retreated into the dining-room.	Служанка взглянула на дверь, задрожала и попятилась и столовую.
Kemp tried to explain in broken sentences.	Кемп отрывочно объяснял положение.
They heard the kitchen door give.	Они услышали, как подалась кухонная дверь.
"This way," said Kemp, starting into activity, and bundled the policemen into the dining-room doorway.	- Сюда! - крикнул Кемп, быстро вталкивая полисменов в столовую.
"Poker," said Kemp, and rushed to the fender.	- Кочергу! - крикнул Кемп и бросился к камину.
He handed the poker he had carried to the policeman and the dining-room one to the other.	Кочергу, которую он принес из спальни, он отдал первому из полисменов, а кочергу из столовой -другому.
He suddenly flung himself backward.	Вдруг он отскочил назад.
"Whup!" said one policeman, ducked, and caught the axe on his poker. The pistol snapped its penultimate shot and ripped a valuable Sidney Cooper.	Один из полисменов пригнулся и, вскрикнув, поймал топор кочергой... Револьвер выпустил предпоследний заряд, пробив ценное полотно кисти Сиднея Купера.
The second policeman brought his poker down on the little weapon, as one might knock down a wasp, and sent it rattling to the floor.	Второй полисмен ударил своей кочергой по маленькому смертоносному оружию, точно хотел убить осу, и револьвер со стуком упал на пол.
At the first clash the girl screamed, stood screaming for a moment by the fireplace, and then ran to open the shutters-possibly with an idea of escaping by the shattered window.	Как только началась схватка, служанка вскрикнула, постояла с минуту у камина и бросилась отворять ставни, вероятно, думая спастись через разбитое окно.
The axe receded into the passage, and fell to a position about two feet from the ground.	Топор выбрался в коридор и остановился футах в двух от пола.
They could hear the Invisible Man breathing.	Слышно было тяжелое дыхание Невидимки.
"Stand away, you two," he said.	- Вы оба отойдите, - сказал он.
