Thinking over the interview, it struck me as being profoundly unsatisfactory.	Весь разговор оставил у меня довольно неприятный осадок.

"By the police!" I gasped. "Do you mean they've arrested him?" "Yes, that's it, and-" I waited to hear no more, but tore up the village to find Poirot.	Я решил, что надо разыскать Пуаро, и отправился к нему в Листвэйз.
CHAPTER X. THE ARREST	9. Арест
To my extreme annoyance, Poirot was not in, and the old Belgian who answered my knock informed me that he believed he had gone to London.	Пуаро не оказалось дома. Старый бельгиец, открывший дверь, сказал, что мой друг, видимо, уехал в Лондон.
I was dumbfounded.	Я очень удивился.
What on earth could Poirot be doing in London!	Надо же выбрать настолько неподходящий момент для отъезда!
Was it a sudden decision on his part, or had he already made up his mind when he parted from me a few hours earlier?	И к чему такая срочность? А может быть, Пуаро уже давно решил съездить в Лондон, но ничего не говорил об этом?
I retraced my steps to Styles in some annoyance.	Придется возвращаться в Стайлз.
With Poirot away, I was uncertain how to act.	Всю дорогу я обдумывал последние события.
Had he foreseen this arrest?	Неужели Пуаро предвидел арест Бауэрстайна?
Had he not, in all probability, been the cause of it?	А может быть, это произошло не без его участия?
Those questions I could not resolve.	Теперь, когда моего друга не было рядом, я могу наконец взять инициативу в свои руки.
